Paths to Learning

Children's Talk

Children’s talk is central to our program. The beauty of children playing outdoors is that there is a lot to talk about, and they CAN talk about it. Talking for different purposes and in different outdoor settings increases their language, thinking, and problem solving skills. We refrain from questions that require a specific answer, asking open-ended questions instead so they can think out loud. Our outdoor sites and trails stimulate children’s talk and playful hands-on learning in response to the constant surprises that pop up in nature.
