Paths to Learning

Joyful Learning

Along the trails and at the sites, we see light in children’s eyes. We listen to them laughing and talking as they run and play. In the safe environment of A Natural Branch, children participate at their own pace, trying out different play options when they are ready. There is a child in our program who sings spontaneously, making up a song now and then as he is walking along. We asked him how he learned to sing, and he replied, “Well, I love to sing!” Since then, other children have started to sing spontaneously. Whether children are singing, playing, or exploring three dimensional spaces in the forest, they are loving it, just like children have done outdoors for eons when they have had unstructured time and the freedom to just play.
